Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®
Upsilon Omega Chapter - Richmond, VA
Welcome to Upsilon Omega Chapter

Welcome to the official website of the Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®.

In 1925, Upsilon Omega Chapter was chartered in Richmond, Virginia, making it the

first Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® chapter in the Richmond metropolitan

area. The five charter members were: Zenobia Gilpin Henderson, MD, Sydney Mayo

Brown, Leah Virginia Lewis, Ruth Thomas Hargrave, and Gladys Powell. We salute

them for their vision and goals.

Welcome to Upsilon Omega’s website to learn about our illustrious history and other

pertinent information. The programs and activities carry out the mission and goals of

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® under the leadership of our International

President, Ms. Danette Anthony Reed. Upsilon Omega implements the Program

Initiatives under the theme, “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and

Sisterhood,” through service programs for women, men, and youth throughout the

Richmond area. Initiatives focus on empowering families, building our economic

wealth, enhancing our environment, advocating for social justice, and uplifting our local

community. Our chapter also has signature programs, including the Debutante Project,

established in 1954, and Future Young Leaders, started in 2011.

As members of the first Black sorority for college-trained African American women, we

work to uplift the community and provide services to enhance the lives of others. Join

and support us in our mission! Our website will feature additional information

concerning events throughout the year. We are grateful to our partners in the Richmond

area for contributing to the success of our community service endeavors. Thank you for

visiting our website.
